Brief Introduction:
Tetrahydroxydiboron, also known as (Dihydroxyboranyl)boronic acid, is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula B2H4O4. This white solid is soluble in water and methanol. In the pharmaceutical field, tetrahydroxydiboron is used as an important intermediate. It can mildly reduce nitroaromatic compounds under metal-free conditions and with water as solvent to generate a variety of aromatic amines with good functional group tolerance and high yield. This property makes tetrahydroxydiboron play a key role in pharmaceutical synthesis, not only suitable for experimental research, but also for industrial production.
Preparation Method:
The preparation method of tetrahydroxydiboron is relatively simple and can be obtained by the reaction of boric acid and sodium hydroxide.

Boric Acid (H3BO3) + Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) → Tetrahydroxydiboron (B(OH)4OH)

Applications:
1) Tetrahydroxydiboron is mainly used in Suzuki coupling to synthesize pharmaceutical intermediates;
2) Tetrahydroxydiboron has a strong alkalinity, its boron-oxygen bond has a strong polarity, which enables tetrahydroxydiboron to accept protons and show alkalinity. This property makes tetrahydroxydiboron have high application value in catalysts, solvents and adsorbents;
3) Tetrahydroxydiboron has good thermal stability and can exist stably under high temperature conditions, which makes it have great potential in high temperature applications. For example, in ceramic materials and refractory materials, tetrahydroxydiboron can be used as a structural stabilizer to improve the performance of materials;
4) Tetrahydroxydiboron can also be used to prepare high-performance lithium-ion battery electrode materials.
