Brief Introduction:

Bis(Neopentyl Glycolato)Diboron, also known as BIS(2,2-DIMETHYL-1,3-PROPANEDIOLATO)DIBORON, is an organic boron compound with the chemical formula C10H20B2O4 and the molecular weight of 225.89. It is a white to off-white solid, the melting point is: 180.5-184.5℃ (lit.), the boiling point is: 214.3±7.0℃.



Characteristics:

Bis(neopentyl glycolato)diboron is easily soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, dimethylformamide, etc.; slightly soluble in chloroform and ethyl acetate, and sensitive to water.



Preparation Method:

There are two preparation methods for the synthesis of Bis(neopentyl glycolato)diboron. One method is to react tetrakis(dimethylamino)diborane and 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-propanediol in a toluene solution, and then remove the toluene to obtain a white solid. Another method is to suspend KOAc, neopentyl glycol and tetrahydroxydiboron in toluene or THF and let them react by stirring at 80°C.

Bis(neopentyl glycolato)diboron has a variety of applications in the chemical field:

1) Bis(neopentyl glycolato)diboron can be used as a donor of borate ester compounds, acting as a catalyst or stabilizer;

2) Bis(neopentyl glycolato)diboron can be used as a catalyst for the synthesis of certain polymers and organic compounds to promote the reaction;
3) Bis(neopentyl glycolato)diboron can also be used in the field of wastewater treatment as a slow-release fertilizer of nitrogen and phosphorus, and has potential for environmentally friendly agriculture;
