Brief Introduction:

Sodium salicylate is an organic substance with a CAS number of 54-21-7 and a chemical formula of C7H5O3Na. It is an odorless white flake or powder that turns pink when exposed to light for a long time. It is soluble in water and glycerin, but insoluble in organic solvents such as ether, chloroform, and benzene.

Sodium salicylate is mainly used in analgesics and rheumatism drugs, and is also used in organic synthesis. It can be obtained by neutralizing salicylic acid with alkali and crystallizing it.

Efficacy and Uses of Sodium Salicylate:

1. Pharmaceutical Industry:

Sodium salicylate is an important drug raw material, widely used in the preparation of over-the-counter and prescription drugs. It has analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory effects and is often used to treat headaches, fever, rheumatism, neuritis, etc. In addition, it can also be used to prepare therapeutic drugs for certain skin diseases, such as melanin-stimulating agents, etc.

2. Cosmetics:

Sodium salicylate has the functions of regulating oil secretion, removing dead skin cells, removing acne, whitening and anti-oxidation, so it is widely used in personal care products, including some cosmetics, mouthwash, etc.

3. Dye Industry:

Sodium salicylate can be used as an intermediate for synthetic dyes. Dyes are important chemicals widely used in the modern chemical industry, the synthesis of many dyes requires the reaction of phenol hydrate with carbon dioxide to obtain sodium salicylate, and then through acidification, recrystallization and drying process steps to finally synthesize the desired dye. Sodium salicylate plays an important role in synthetic dyes, not only affecting the colour and stability of dyes, but also improving the quality and production efficiency of dyes.

4. Preservative Industry:

Sodium salicylate has strong antibacterial and antifungal activity, so it is widely used to prevent certain organisms from spoiling and deteriorating industrial products. For example, in the food industry, sodium salicylate can be added to jams, preserved fruits, condiments, canned foods and other foods to extend their shelf life. In the wood industry, sodium salicylate can be added to coatings and paints to improve the antiseptic properties of wood. In addition, sodium salicylate is also used in leather processing, textile moth prevention and other fields.

5. Rubber Industry:

Sodium salicylate is a commonly used condensing agent that can react with proteins in rubber to form a stable cross-linking structure, thereby improving the physical and mechanical properties and aging resistance of rubber. In the production process of rubber products, sodium salicylate is usually added to rubber as an auxiliary agent and cross-linking agent to improve the quality and service life of rubber products.

6. Industrial cleaning agent:

Sodium salicylate has good solubility and decontamination ability and can be used as one of the ingredients of industrial cleaning agents. For example, in metal surface cleaning agents, sodium salicylate can react with dirt on the metal surface to remove dirt and prevent rust. In addition, sodium salicylate can also be used to prepare glass cleaning agents, detergents, etc.
